NI AWR Software Training: 3D EM Simulation in Microwave Office Using the Analyst Simulator

Overview:
This one-day course will enable attendees to successfully use the Analyst™ 3D EM simulator in NI AWR software. Analyst software uses the finite element method (FEM) to solve for the electromagnetic fields in arbitrary 3D geometries and then extract the S-parameters. At the end of this course, attendees will be able to draw arbitrary 3D geometries and complete the associated setup to run Analyst software successfully. Emphasis will be placed on creation of 3D layout cells, which can be used a larger layout. Examples will include waveguide, package/module, and antenna technologies. It is assumed the attendee has some familiarity with Microwave Office software at a basic level. No prior knowledge of Analyst software is required.

Contents:
The course emphasizes the use of the 3D layout environment to build up 3D cells, which can be placed together to create more sophisticated structures.  An example of a combline filter will be presented, where the individual parts of the waveguide can be cascaded together to form the final filter.  The following concepts will be used in making and simulating the filter:

  • Working in the 3D layout environment
  • How ports and boundary conditions work
  • Controlling layout with parameters.
  • How to create 3D library parts
  • Using cells in hierarchical layout in Microwave Office software
  • Simulation in the standalone 3D environment
  • Multiple mode and cavity resonance simulations
  • Antenna simulations
