NI AWR Software Training: 2-Day Microwave Office for Designers

This two-day training gives an overview of Microwave Office circuit design software. No prior experience with the software is required as the course will provide a working knowledge of the major features. Hands-on exercises will be used throughout the course to emphasize concepts. The course is broken up into three major parts: circuit simulation in the schematic and graphing environments, layout, and electromagnetic (EM) simulation, which will cover both the AXIEM planar EM simulator and the Analyst™ 3D finite-element method (FEM) simulator.

User Interface and Circuit Simulation:

  • Schematics: model placement and control, simulation settings
  • User interface: environment settings
  • Graphs: customization settings, markers, multiple traces, sweeping control
  • Optimization: variable selection, setting goals, optimizer options
  • Nonlinear simulation: harmonic balance concepts and settings


  • Interaction between layout and schematic elements
  • Drawing layers: the LPF file
  • Import/export of layout
  • Customization of layout environment

EM Simulation:

  • Setting up EM: the STACKUP block
  • Creating AXIEM and Analyst projects
  • AXIEM: port settings, simulation options
  • Analyst: boundaries, ports, 3D cells
  • Overview of EM extraction

Course Equipment/Hardware:

  • Bringing your own laptop is preferred, if necessary, a laptop can be provided
  • Special note: 64-bit PCs are required to run the software
  • Software, licenses, and required training materials will be provided
