Load Modulation in Microwave Circuit Design: Past, Present, and Future Applications Microwave circuit designers conventionally think of impedance transformation as being achievable only through the use of matching networks which use various passive reactive elements. The active alternative, which uses an injected co-phased signal to achieve the same ends, is little used, other than in power-managing RFPA topologies such as the Doherty and Chireix outphasing configurations. Recently published work by the author's team have demonstrated that active load modulation can be used in a much wider range of microwave circuit applications. This talk will summarise this burgeoning field and illustrate some specific cases where active load modulation has been used to implement reconfigurable wideband amplifiers. |
